Solar energy was invented in 1839 by a French scientist Edmond Becquerel. He soaked two plates in an electricity conducting liquid and when he exposed one of the plates to sunlight, he could detect a small amount potencial difference between the two plates. Solar cells are now made using silicon. Solar energy has many uses. Some of these uses are, lighting, heating (water, homes and etc.), archtecture, agriculture, and powering solar vehicles & calculators among others.

When sunlight shines on the solar cell, light particles (photons) light up the upper surface. The Photons then carry their energy through the solar cell. The Photons then lose their energy to electrons in the lower p-type silicone layer. then, the electorns use this energy to jump up to the N-type silicon layer and and escape out into the circuit. They flow around the circuit and power the device and return to the P-type layer of silicon.

-Solar energy is useful and convenient for remote areas like islands in the middle of a lake.
-Solar energy produces no pollution, except for the poduction and transport of parts.
-Produces electricity very quietly unlike other methods.
-Installation of solar panels on an island is cheaper than installing all new power lines.
-Solar cells produce unlimited, free energy after the instalation or the solar panels.
-Most panels can be installed on roof tops which eliminates the reaquirement of more space.
-Most solar companies are starting to produce rental and/or leasing plans to help with the capital cost of solar panels.
-People can become less dependant on the world fossil fuels.
-Never runs out unless if the sun dies which could happed after another 2 billion years.
-You dont have to worry about the electricity costs increasing.
-No green house gases or harmful waste is created in the generating process.


-The most common con of solar electricity is that it is very expensive to make solar panels and they cost about $1000 each and most households may need more than one panel.
-Energy is only generated during daylight hours, which means that for half of the day, there is no source for electricity.
-The efficiency of a solar cell is affected by weather.
-Pollution can decrease the efficiency of a solar cell, which means that electricity will not be produced efficiently in an area where there are lots of factories producing waste.
-Eventhough solar panels can be installed on rooftops, they take a lot of space and sometimes the space on rooftops may not be enough.
-Sometimes the orientation of the roof is not pointing to the sun, which may make the solar panles less effective or impossible to install.


HYDRO- Solar energy is better than hydro electricity because when creating a dam for hydroelectricity,most hostoric sites and residencial areas are flooded. This also displaces wildlife and the migration routes of fish. dams stop the flow or rivers and waste in the rivers which causes the river to clog and contaminate.

WIND ENERGY-Wind mills are very noisy which can cause a disturbance to residents. Wind mills cannot be built in places where winds do not blow hard enough. The maintenence costs of a wind mill are very high.

TIDAL-Can only be built in places where the ocean is not very wild. Causes much harm to migratory birds and fishes. Only 9 places on earth are safe to build a tidal energy plant in.
