Dear Mayor Zoras,I think that if your going to make a new island in the middles of lake ontairo you should use solar power to generate the island because of the great pleasures that it will do here. Solar power is the change of sunlight into electricity, solar panels use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.

How is Solar Power Generated: Solar power is generated using a simple method of capurating the light of the sun by the solar cells arranged inside the solar panels placed in a postion where there is a maxium amount of sunlight during the day. An easier way too say this is that solar panels are placed in an area where they can recieve maxium sunlight, these panels absorb sunlight the entire day and store energy away in batteries which are used to power your lightsor other electric appalances at home.

Postives:There are many advantages of solar power, to start off there it is a completly renewable source, also solar cells make absolutley no noise at all so it wont distrub any of the citzens of this island. Solar panels are typically easy to install there is very little manitance is requried to keep solar cells running, Solar panels may seem quite expensive when you first purchuse it, but in the long run you will yourself saving quite a deal of money. Last but not least this souce of power because there'sno pollution and it is 100% ecofriendly after installed.
Negatives:Unfortuanatly there are negatives of using solar power such as the solar panels that are needed to harness solar energy tend to be very expensive when you first purchuse them, but in the long run you wont have to pay any more electrity billsbecause its free! Solar power cannot be secured during a storm, on a cloudly day or at night because we will live on an island we get alot of sun we can save some of the energy for when there is a storm or at night.
Efficiency to other forms of power generated:There are many of ather forms of energy generators, but they have alot of negatives. For example nuclear energy, there are many nuclear explosions, nuclear explosions produce radition. The nuclear radition harms the cells of the body which can make people sick, or even kill them. At least with solar power you will know that there will be no explosions. Another source of energy is wind energy, even though wind power is renewable there are many of disadavantages of it. For example they are very noisy, each one generates the same level of noise as a family car traveling at 70mph, just imagine all the citzens of the island that will be annoyed. At least with solar power there is no noise at all. Hydro power is another form of energy that has lots of disadvantages for exaple you have to build a dam in the middle of the island, plus dams are extremly expensive to build and must be built to a very high standard, solar power can go untop of houses, it can go in the ground so thereis no problems with that, but with hydro it has to go in the water in a dam. As you can see there arent very many disadavantages of solar power that cant be fixed. Go green with solar power!

Interesting Facts:
  • A home solar system is usally made up of solar panels, an inverter, a battery, a charge controller, wiring and support structure
  • Solar energy can also be used to heat swimming pools, power cars, for attic fans, calculators and other small appliances. It produces lighting for indoors or outdoors
  • In one hour there is more sunlight that falls on the earth then what is used by the entire population in one year
  • Solar energy can be collected and stored in batteries, reflected, insulated, absorbed and transmitted
  • The larger the panel, the more power it usally has
  • Panels can come in various colours, but most people use blue
